Variety Selection

(taken from krissanapanasin.com)
The growing process is very important, particularly the selection of varieties. Growing of bad varieties definitely twists the farming objectives, especially of yield quality and results in waste of capitals and time.
The main problem of Agarwood are the genetic sources owing to the fact that a large number of Agarwood, whether or not having The resinous heartwood , have been destroyed, thereby reducing seed propagating sources. Such problem has worsened when facing difficulty in variety development and selection. The only hub of the world-needed varieties is located in Sra Bab Mountain and Soi Dao Mountain in Chantaburi Province.
Presently, Krissana Panasin Co., Ltd., has bought most of Agarwood trees, 7 – 100 years old, grown in local fields in Chantaburi and Trad Provinces in local fields so as to preserve and develop the real DNA varieties under the name of “Panasin Varieties,” which can easily build the resinous heartwood s. Such trees have the trunk in 2.5 cm diameter (in the size of the 1-baht coin) and can produce The resinous heartwood within a short period of time and can be refined to produce grade-A Agarwood oil. Both products have been accredited by the Middle East standard and a large number of them have been ordered in advance.

Because of the few number of the sellable seeds of real DNA varieties that can produce high quality Resinous heartwood in Chantaburi and Trad Provinces, seeds in the North, Khao Yai and the South have been propagated and sold in the areas owing to their cheap prices. Growing such substitute seeds will cause problems in for growers in the future as prices of the outputs, either aromatic burnable Agarwood pieces or Agarwood oil, will much vary. Selection of varieties thus is very important in terms of farming, production and marketing in reply to the farming objectives.
